EXPERIENCE
1979
I taught at a rural primary school in Southern Hawkes Bay in a place called Onga Onga. I then left Aotearoa to go on my O.E
.
1984
On my return I got a teaching job at Koru Primary School
in Mangere.
1985-1987
I decided I wanted to try a new career and had always been interested in working with young teenage women. I began work at Weymouth Girls home for the Department of Social Welfare. My daughter Koha was born in 1987 and I decided to retrain as a social worker and move away from shift work.
1989-1992
When I completed my Diploma I worked as a Care & Protection social worker for Child Youth & Family in the Otahuhu and Mangere areas.
1992-1999
I moved onto to the Otahuhu Family Court where I became the Senior Family Court Co-ordinator.
I worked with issues of Family Violence, separation and divorce, care & protection and couple counselling. I also began studying for a BA in Social Policy.
1999 -2005
I went back into the education arena as a Lecturer on the Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT).
I worked on the Diploma of Social and Community Work. I became Professional Leader and a Senior Lecturer and was Highly
commended at the Distinguished Teacher Awards in November 2004.
In 2004 I became very interested in the area of supervision. This
was through my experience of group supervision of students
on placement. I Began studies for the Post Graduate Diploma in Supervision in Social Services.
2005-2009
I left MIT and began my private practice as an External Supervisor.
I also did contract work and through this ended up in a part time permanent teaching position with Child Youth & Family Learning & Development Unit.
2009 to present
I have continued working in private practice providing external supervision, training, mentoring & coaching. I have also lectured and coordinated courses at UNITEC on the Bachelor of Social Practice (Social Work).
